Patna, May 3: Nearly 48 hours have passed since 15-year-old Rohit Kumar went missing from one of the busiest areas in the capital but the city police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
Rohit, a Class X student of DAV, Khagaul, had gone for his IIT-JEE coaching class at an institute on Boring Canal Road on Sunday morning. He did not return home. Rohit’s scooty was recovered by the family on Sunday afternoon. The police have registered a case of abduction and investigations are on, said sources.
A police officer told The Telegraph that attempts were being made to find the boy and police teams have been sent to different locations, based on the leads.
“At this moment, the only thing that can be said is that the police are trying hard. We are trying to locate him (the boy) as soon as possible. Police teams have been formed for the purpose and have been sent to several places. The police are looking at the case as an abduction. Investigations are based on the same line,” assistant superintendent of police (sachivalaya) Satyaveer Singh told The Telegraph today.
Though senior police officers did not confirm, sources said the scooty, which was recovered by the family from near the government school in Sheikhpura area, 2km from the family’s residence in Magistrate Colony, had bloodstains on it. This has further terrorised the family.
“The boy’s mobile is still switched off. This is causing some problems for the police. If the phone is switched on even for a moment, we can track down the tower location and zero in on a particular area,” another police officer said.
The officer added that the call records of the boy were being taken out.
“The call records are being taken out and are being studied. Based on that, the police have got certain leads and are working towards the same. A breakthrough in the case can be expected soon,” the officer added.
With both the police and the family claiming that no ransom calls had come till now, the police said that more angles were being looked into.
“The police are looking at other angles too. We are looking at the calls Rohit made and the text messages he sent from his mobile. The police needs to look at every possibility, including any romantic angle. Nothing concrete can be said at present. Investigations are on,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, for the family of the boy, the situation is getting more desperate with every passing day.
“No, we have not received any calls from anyone. His mobile is still switched off. The police are not giving us any definite information. Yesterday, I went to meet the chief minister at his janata darbar and he assured me of all possible help. But two days have passed and Rohit is still missing. We are spending sleepless nights,” said Rohit’s mother Anita Sinha.
His father Sanjay Kumar, an engineer with the civil public works department, said Rohit left home on his red scooty and was cheerful as usual on that day. He started for his tuition class at 8am and attended his classes until 1.30pm. When he did not return home till 4pm, the family started to search for him desperately. They lodged a missing report with the police the same evening.
