Patna, July 27: RJD leader Rabri Devi today attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for doing nothing to get Dayashankar Singh, a former vice-president of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit, arrested for his objectionable remarks on BSP leader Mayawati.

The former chief minister said the Prime Minister's silence on the issue was encouraging such elements. She also claimed that innocent people were being jailed while offenders were roaming free.

Rabri's comment came after a photograph showing Dayashankar in Jharkhand went viral at a time when the chief judicial magistrate's court in Lucknow has issued a non-bailable warrant against him for using derogatory language against the BSP chief.

"I am wondering how this fellow is roaming free," Rabri said while emerging from the Legislative Council building. "The whole country is watching him (Dayashankar). The man should be arrested and put behind bars. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should show some shame on this issue. His government is troubling innocent people, while people like Dayashankar roam freely."

The BJP expelled Dayashankar from the party for six years but the absconding leader has moved Allahabad High Court seeking a stay on his possible arrest and also challenged the FIR lodged against him by the BSP leaders.

The court accepted the plea and has set August 28 as the date for its hearing.

"They (BJP) only know how to trouble Dalits and minorities," Rabri further said. "When their own people land in trouble, they do nothing. In fact, they provide them a safe escape route from the rule of law. Modi's silence will encourage such elements. I demand Dayashankar's immediate arrest."

Mayawati has already alleged that the BJP was trying to protect Dayashankar and accused the party of sending him to Jharkhand so that he could not be arrested. The matter was also raised in Rajya Sabha.

Cow vigilantism

Rabri also took a dig at the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh over two Muslim women being assaulted by a cow vigilante group at Mandsaur on the suspicion of carrying beef.

"The BJP is a master at playing the Hindu-Muslim card during elections," she said. "They will beat up Muslims, Dalit and women. The BJP does this in Congress as well as BJP-ruled states. This is part of their character and such incidents increase manifold whenever there are elections in any state."

Rabri also demanded action at the earliest against BJP MLC Tunnaji Pandey, arrested on the charge of molesting a minor girl in a running train.
