Patna, July 31: Handicraft goods, jewellery and household items greeted residents under one roof at a Saawan Mela today, living up to the season’s festivities.
The mela, organised by Lions Club of Patna Buddha at Maharana Pratap Hall, had something for every visitor. Apart from a number of stalls offering handicraft items, make-up products, saris, home decorations, the organisers had also planned a painting competition for children and a mehndi competition for women.
The residents, who sta- rted to turn up at the venue from 1pm, checked out ite- ms on display before moving on to games and mouth-watering dishes.
Pradeep Khetan, the president of the club, said entrepreueners, who are not members of the club, are invited to the annual event to put up stalls. Today, the stall that caught everybody’s attention was Patna resident Nirmala Jain’s Prerna Collection that impressed visitors with its American diamond jewellery sets, among other items. Also on sale at other stalls were pickles, papad, georgette saris, toys, bedsheets, table covers with Madhubani painting and others.
Thirty-year-old homemaker Devyani Dev, who is a regular at the annual mela, bought toe rings from Prerna Collection. “I am very particular about the things that I buy during Saawan. Today, I bought a pair of green toe rings.”
Khetan said: “Lions Club of Patna Buddha has been organising the Saawan Mela for the past eight years. We invite people to put up stalls and the fund collected from the stall charges are spent on free eye operations for poor people.”
