Patna: Press Information Bureau (PIB) director-general Sitanshu Kar on Saturday said suitable action will be taken against the PIB-accredited journalist, Brajesh Kumar alias Brajesh Thakur, arrested in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case.

Kar told The Telegraph over phone from New Delhi that he was not aware till now that Brajesh was a journalist, who had PIB accreditation. "I will go through the file pertaining to his accreditation from PIB the next working day and will take suitable action."

According to the PIB list of accredited journalists, Brajesh Kumar's name stands at serial number 422 as correspondent of Pratah Kamal. It is a Hindi daily published from Muzaffarpur in north Bihar and owned by Brajesh.

The clout that Brajesh and his late father, Radha Mohan Thakur (founding editor), wielded in the PIB was so strong that he was also allotted a government accommodation under the PIB-accredited journalist quota in a posh locality of the National Capital Region from where Brajesh used to run his Delhi office.

Brajesh used to run the non-government organisation, which ran the shelter home. He and 10 others are currently behind bars in the case.

The assault came to light after Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences conducted a social audit of 110 NGOs of the state and submitted a detailed report.

IG (Muzaffarpur zone) Sunil Kumar has asked the SSP of Muzaffarpur Harpreet Kaur to cancel Brajesh's arms licence.
