Petrol, diesel costlier

New Delhi (PTI): Petrol prices have been raised by Rs 3.96 a litre and diesel by Rs 2.37 a litre. The new rates, excluding taxes, would come into effect from Thursday midnight.

Teachers plan on agitation

Patna: Contract teachers owing allegiance to Madhyamik Shiskhak Sangh (Kedar Pandey) group would go on strike from Friday in support of their various demands, including regular pay scale. The Madhyamik Shiskhak Sangh has decided to go on strike, supporting Bihar Panchayat Nagar Prarambhik Shikshak Sangh, who are on strike since April 9.

Health probe

Patna: A vigilance court in Muzaffarpur has ordered a probe against six officials of health department, including principal secretary Brajesh Mehrotra, in connection with excess withdrawal of Rs 68 lakh from treasury. The court also took cognisance against the then health secretary Dipak Kumar Singh and five other officials of the department

Hearing

Patna: A hearing in a case of an election petition filed by RJD leader Prabhunath Singh against BJP MP from Maharajganj, Janardan Singh Sigriwal, has been adjourned till May 7.

CM aid

 Patna: The Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Thursday sent relief material to quake victims in Nepal. The initiative was flagged off by chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Quiz

Patna: Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) students stood runner-up in AIIMS quiz contest, which was organised on the occasion of World Immunology Day at AIIMS on Thursday.

Duty pat

Patna: The Indian Chamber of Commerce has hailed the decision of the Union government to raise import duty on sugar from 25 per cent to 40.

Claims

Patna: SBI General Insurance has announced settling disaster related claims within seven days in the regions affected by recent earthquake in the country.

New course

Patna: AN College principal Lalan Singh on Thursday inaugurated pre-PhD course work in management in the department of business administration. Singh said the college has been selected as one of the centres for Pre PhD course.

Relief

Patna: Indian Red Cross Society, Bihar state branch, opened a centre at its office here for collection of relief material to be sent to quake victims in Nepal. The centre would be open from 8am to 10pm.

Strike

Patna: The daylong nationwide strike called jointly by national level road transport organisations was successful, claimed All India Road Transport Workers' Federation on Thursday.

Farewell

Patna: East Central Railway (ECR) on Thursday gave a farewell to D. Panigrahi from the post of chief medical director. A programme was organised to mark the event.
