Muzaffarpur, March 31: A two-day meeting of the BJP state working committee started today at Pandit Nehru Stadium. More than 568 party representatives, MPs, MLAs and MLCs have arrived here to participate in the event.

Inaugurating the organisational conclave, the party’s state president, C.P. Thakur, expressed happiness over the resounding victory of the BJP in the past Assembly elections and reminded the partymen of meeting the people’s expectations.

“Responsibility and faith reposed by the people of the state is historic and their expectations should not be betrayed,” Thakur said. He lauded the efforts initiated by the state government to expedite the pace of development works on all fronts and suggested to exploit the internal resources to augment speedy growth.

The state BJP chief said Bihar was a backward and poverty-ridden state and the opportunities and avenues of employment generation should be stressed to lessen the problem of rural poverty. He suggested measures to boost fish farming on a big scale for lucrative income.

“The government should also focus on improving the quality of higher education. It should also open schools for children residing in slums and hamlets,” Thakur said.

He called upon the party workers to monitor maximum utilisation of funds meant for development of the poor. He suggested the plinth of the houses constructed under Indira Awas Yojana for the poor should be increased up to 3’ to prevent sandflies from entering into the houses of the poor.

“They (poor) can be protected against kala azar,” Thakur said.

The party MP and former state chief Radha Mohan Singh said the issue of black money stacked abroad would be taken up at the national-level.

The BJP would launch an agitation from April 6 to June 15 against the issue of black money and corruption. The party would organise protest march and rallies, said a BJP leader.

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav, health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, PHED minister Prem Kumar, animal husbandry minister Giriraj Singh would also participate in the event.
