| Students perform at the Khel Samman Samaroh organised at Rabindra Bhavan in Patna on Friday. Pupils were on cloud nine as India won the south asian karate championship in Bhutan. Thirteen children from Bihar, studying at Lucent International School, Dehradun, won gold and silver medals. Along with the children, the parents, too, were felicitated by the school. Guardians and pupils both were visibly excited at the Khel Samman Samaroh. India team martial arts coach S Saudagar Salim Khan, who had accompanied the students to Bhutan, was proud of his students. He said: “Total 15 students from the school have won gold, silver and bronze medals. Forty-three students had ensured their participation from the institute. From India, 173 students had taken part in the tournament in different categories. Eight pupils from Bihar have won gold medals and all the five silver medals have been won by Bihar students. One gold and a bronze were won by a Dehradun and a Delhi student, respectively.” Shivam Choubey of Buxar, who has been learning martial arts for the past few months, said: “I felt like informing my parents at once about my success.” The Class V boy won gold. Samastipur-based Hariom, 12, and a Class VI student has been learning the art for past six to seven months. He said: “My parents told me one should never give up. This philosophy helped me win.” The chairman of the school, Bhupesh Kumar, said children can be allowed to be a mischievous, if they study. Lucent International School is a residential institute. The chief guests were food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak and rural minister Bhim Singh. School administrator Vinu Shah was also present.
