Patna, Feb. 17: Good news for all those waiting to tee off on the birdies. Patna Golf Club will host the 38th Patna Annual Golf Championship from February 18 to 20.
Around 250 golfers from across the country, including Patna, Danapur, Calcutta, Delhi, Jamshedpur, Jamalpur, Ranchi and Varanasi, will take part in the three-day event.
The club has already received more than 52 entries from outside Patna. This year, the golf tournament would feature 40 women participants as well.
Established on March 21, 1916, by the British government in India, the Patna Golf Club sprawls across an area of 108 acres and is surrounded by lush greens.
Mohit Ahluwalia, the secretary of the Patna Golf Club, said: “The main tournament will start on Febru- ary 19, when Under-19 participants can exhibit their golfing skills. The tournament christened as Kalyanpur Cup will be the main tournament. The winners of the tournament will be awarded by chief minister Nitish Kumar.”
On February 20, the tournament will be held for golfers belonging to the age group of 19 to 24.
Bihar Governor Devana- nd Konwar is the chief patron of Patna Golf Club, while Justice Shiva Kirti Singh is the president of the club and Tapan Ghosh the club captain.
The club captain added: “While chief minister Nitish Kumar will be our chief guest during the prize distribution ceremony, our guests of honour will be Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad, a Supreme Court judge, and Shatrughan Sinha, the member of Parliament.”
Ghosh also said there are 600 members in Patna Golf Club and the criteria for becoming a member of the club is that the person should know how to play golf and must also have a keen interest in learning golf.
The tournament is being sponsored by Indian Oil, State Bank of India, Pyra- mid Propmart from New Delhi, a real estate company and Seagram and Kingfisher.
Moreover, on the occasion, a souvenir-cum-directory dedicated to the event is planned for the release.
The prize distribution will also feature live band from Calcutta after the prize distribution.
