Patna ranks 79th, up for cleanliness challenge

Chief secretary to review draft proposal prepared for mission smart city

Patna was placed 79th in the Swachch Sarvekshan - 2017 on Wednesday.

The Quality Council of India (QCI), which is conducting the survey under the initiative of the Union ministry of urban development, released its report for the ranking of the cities on the online input basis under the survey on Wednesday.

Till Tuesday, Patna was holding 80th rank in the survey among 500 cities from across the country. Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) sources said the final result of the survey was expected to be released in a week that would be decided on the basis of the data provided by the civic body, data collection through observations and independent assessment, citizen feedback (which they are supposed to give on Swachch application and the Swachch helpline number on which citizens can post and inform the municipal corporation about the civic issues which the municipal corporation has to address within limited timeframe).

Sources said as per the online input basis on Wednesday, Biharsharif was ahead of the state capital as it reached 66th rank in the survey on Wednesday, while Aurangabad and Hajipur clinched the 162nd and 165th rank, respectively.

"Of the total 2,000 marks for the survey, citizen's feedback carried 600 marks, while data provided by municipal body carries 900 marks and evaluator team's assessment carries 500 marks," said a Patna Municipal Corporation official on condition of anonymity.

He added: "The Quality Council of India team which visited the state capital twice in February had to judge the city on waste collection, sweeping and transportation (40 per cent marks), municipal solid waste processing and disposal (20 per cent marks), construction of public toilets (30 per cent marks), information, education and behaviour change (5 per cent ) and capacity building through e-learning portal (5 per cent marks)."

Mission smart city

Chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh will review the draft proposal prepared for mission smart city on Thursday. "Singh is supposed to provide his suggestions on the proposal. As per the plan, the Patna Municipal Corporation would tie-up with various state government departments to execute the plan under mission smart city," said a Patna Municipal Corporation official.

PMC's draft proposal for mission smart city has been uploaded on the Union government's website - www.mygov.in .

Sources said over 500 people have uploaded their feedback Patna Municipal Corporation's proposal whereas over 1,000 people did so on the proposal of Biharsharif and Muzaffarpur till Wednesday.
