Patna: Patliputra Junction is in for a major revamp. Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Ranjan Prakash Thakur is working to improve facilities at the Junction, as the pressure there is all set to increase in the coming days.

Patliputra Junction falls under category A as a railway station and should therefore have all basic passenger-related facilities. Categorisation of the station is done on the basis on revenue earned by a particular station.

Ever since Patliputra Junction became functional in February 2016, its revenue has increased manifold.

"Patliputra Junction is going to be a very important railway station and there are lots of things to be done, because passenger flow is going to increase and facilities will accordingly have to be improved over here," Thakur told The Telegraph.

Located 12km northwest of Patna Junction, Patliputra Junction is the third major railway terminal that reduces the load on Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminus. The importance of the station can be understood from the fact that it is the only railway station linking Patna with north Bihar through the Digha-Sonepur rail-cum-road bridge.

As things stand now, there are three platforms and four railway tracks at the junction. But in the coming days, the number of railway platforms would be increased to cater to more trains.

In the coming days, Patliputra Junction could become one of the most prominent railway stations of East Central Railway under Danapur division.

Asked about facilities that are likely to be added at this station in the coming days, Thakur said: "We need to develop additional platforms and additional line apart from developing the parking area. We also need to develop the maintenance area. More stalls would come up at the junction."

Footfall has gone up at the Junction, as it serves as a link link between south and north Bihar, especially after Express trains started passing through this junction. Currently, over 15,000 passengers board trains from Patliputra junction.

"You must know that doubling of Digha-Sonepur rail-cum-road bridge will start soon, after which we will need more railway lines to cater to more trains," Danapur DRM Thakur said. "Even the approach road to the junction needs to be developed."

The other important work taking place at the junction includes creating another storey above the building at Rs 2.25 crore, erection of a boundary wall at Rs 11 crore and washing pit at Rs 12 crore.

As things stand now, the Patliputra Junction has one waiting hall, five booking-cum-reservation windows, an inquiry counter, parcel office and a room each for Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF).
