Youth first, party comes later. And for this Pappu Yadav is even willing to tap Anna Hazare over Lalu Prasad.
The RJD MP continues his own mission defying the party's suggestion not to work on his whim. Pappu is organising an event at SK Memorial Hall in Patna on December 29 and has invited youths to share their problems so that he could 'raise those' at his level.
'I have decided to interact with the youths to make them aware about the politics and corruption existing in our system. As with the young mind, they also have too many questions and it becomes important for a politician, especially lawmakers, to provide them a platform where they can interact with us. On December 29, I am organising an event at SK Memorial Hall where there would not be any bhasan (speech). The youths would just ask me question and I will reply to their queries,' Pappu told The Telegraph over phone after addressing Jan Adalat (people's court) in Mahnar, Vaishali.
Sharing more on the December 29 event, Pappu said: 'I have invited 5,000 youths and am expecting a good turnout. The youth power can change the system and would have a large impact on society. Apart from me, there would be a few intellectuals having in-depth knowledge about the present situation in the country with data and facts. I have requested Anna Hazare ji to spend some time in the event and interact with the students and youths.'
The party had earlier appealed to its workers not to associate themselves with meetings convened by Pappu - who has launched an agitation against the doctors allegedly fleecing the poor under the banner of Yuva Shakti. Despite all these, he has decided to go by his own wish and command as he had openly said he did not care except Lalu Prasad in the RJD.
Political observers believe that as political parties making strategy ahead of the next year's Assembly elections, Pappu wants to create his own niche and somehow he has already taken a lead in the race by holding several rallies under his newly formed Yuva Shakti. 'His new move to mobilise the youths seems to be more powerful as youths are always restless for change,' said a political expert.
His growing clout under the new banner was also evident when he announced to purchase land for the Mahadalits in Tekari block of Gaya district who were forced to leave their village after few upper caste men threaten with dire consequences. A few days back, he had raised the Bhagalpur issue in Parliament against a doctor accused of outraging the modesty of a woman at Goshaidaspur. He also demanded immediate arrest of Mritunjay Kumar and his associates.
The five-term MP - thrice from Purnea and twice from Madhepura - is also going to provide a toll-free number and helpline using which youths can share their problems with him and seek suggestion.
'I will provide them a toll-free number and also a helpline. Youths can call me for seeking any suggestions and people can also call me if they are in trouble. I will immediately act upon the call and would make sure that their problems get solved. I have always worked for the cause of the poor belonging to all sections of the society. I am pained when I see people in trouble,' said Pappu.
