The examination board of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University has set up a three-member panel to look into alleged irregularities in the evaluation of answer scripts by an examination co-ordinator from Magadh University.

Ramendra Kumar Singh, a zoology teacher of AN College, Patna, was assigned the responsibility to evaluate around 10,000 copies of different postgraduate disciplines for 2012. AN College is affiliated to Magadh University.

The Muzaffarpur-based university administration has alleged that Singh did not evaluate several of the answer sheets and examiners appointed by him just allotted random marks on the cover page. The university, on the basis of marks allotted on the cover page, announced the results of the 2012 session in March.

The university examination board discussed the issue on August 25. A three-member team to probe into the alleged irregularities in the evaluation was announced on October 19. The team would randomly examine answer scripts and provide its report by November 10.

The examination board authorised vice-chancellor Ravi Verma to take up the issue with the governor. It also debarred Singh from examination-related duties.

Ajay Kumar Srivastava, the proctor, said: “Pramila Sinha head of English, postgraduation, and examination controller Arun Kumar Singh found major anomalies in the evaluated answer scripts and several copies were tabled before the members of examination board on August 25. Singh’s name figured in a report on the negligence and carelessness in the evaluation of the postgraduate answer scripts for the 2012 session.”

The university stumbled upon irregularities in the evaluation of the postgraduate answer scripts on August 18 when a special tabulator, Sushil Kumar Singh, brought them to the notice of the examination board. Suspecting anomalies in the evaluation by the examiners, vice-chancellor Verma demanded action against Singh from his Magadh University counterpart, Nandji Kumar, in August.

Verma said: “Several reminders were sent to the Magadh University VC to punish examination co-ordinator Singh. Earlier, an explanation was also sought from the examination co-ordinator through the Magadh University VC.”
