The public transport in Bodhgaya has got a boost with the urban development department issuing a purchase order for 30 buses for the town.

Sources said the urban development department — the nodal agency for the implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) — recently gave the order to the transport department.

The department would soon issue purchase order for 100 buses for Patna within a few weeks, said a source. Some of the new buses would have low floors.

Sudhir Kumar, the secretary of the urban development department, told The Telegraph on Thursday: “We have issued the purchase order for 30 buses for Bodhgaya sanctioned under JNNURM to the transport department. The purchase order for procurement of 100 buses for Patna would also be issued in a couple of weeks after seeking approval from the chief secretary.”

Bihar State Road Transport Corporation — an undertaking of the transport department — has conducted the trial of the buses in Patna and Bodhgaya.
