The troubles for the Lalu Prasad family continued with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) on Friday starting the process of taking over a fuel outlet which was in the name of Bihar health minister Tej Pratap Yadav, elder brother of embattled deputy chief minister Tejaswhi Prasad Yadav.

BPCL had in June cancelled the licence of the pump allotted to Tej Pratap, the older of Lalu's two sons, for furnishing fake details at the time of applying for allotment.

Tej Pratap, meanwhile, had obtained an interim stay order on any action by BPCL, which had issued a showcause notice to him in May. The court on Tuesday vacated the interim stay, clearing the decks for the petroleum company to take control of the property. Patna sub-judge Sachi Mishra, in her order, referred the matter to an arbitrator under the Arbitration & Conciliation Act.

The BPCL action comes amid persisting demands for the resignation of Tejashwi, who has been named by the CBI in a land-for-hotels FIR. The BJP today demanded the removal of Tej Pratap as well over the pump case.

BPCL had on June 17 sent the licence termination order to Lara Automobiles, represented by Tej Pratap, after he failed to furnish a satisfactory explanation to the notice issued over the allocation of the property at Anisabad in Patna.

The fuel station had ran into controversy after one Chandrashekhar and others had sent a complaint to the petroleum PSU on April 28 this year in which it was alleged that Tej Pratap had made a false declaration about the land. The complaint said that the land belonged to M/s AK Infosystems which had no lease agreement with Lara Automobiles or Tej Pratap.

Sharing the details of the process of taking over the pump, a BPCL official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told The Telegraph: "In such cases we first stop the supply of fuel to these stations and then take over control." The official also clarified that the fuel station would continue to function under the supervision of the petroleum company.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, who has made a slew of allegations against Lalu and his family members since April this year, had earlier said that the petrol pump was fraudulently allotted to Tej Pratap in 2012 during the UPA II regime at the Centre. Modi had alleged that Tej Pratap did not have the stipulated 43 decimal of land for setting up the pump at the time of applying for it.

On Friday, Modi cited the pump case to press for Tej Pratap's removal from the council of ministers, claiming he had indulged in forgery for procuring the licence. "Tej Pratap got the petrol pump allocated in 2012 during UPA rule by means of forgery. As the petroleum company cancelled his licence after finding the complaint against him to be true, chief minister Nitish Kumar should immediately remove him from the council of ministers," said Modi.
