Patna: Nishad Vikash Sangh president Mukesh Sahni, who made headlines in Bihar during the 2015 Assembly elections, on Sunday announced to float his own party by October.
Sahni had become the centre of attraction in 2015 with his agitation for inclusion of extremely backward classes like the Nishads, Mallahs and Nonias into the Scheduled Caste category.
On Sunday, he said the NDA government had ditched him and not done anything for reservation to the Nishad (fishermen) community for which he would float his own party. Sahni announced this at SK Memorial Hall in Patna where Nishad community members had gathered.
At present the community comes under extremely backward classes and constitutes about 8 per cent of Bihar's total population. EBCs constitute about 30 per cent of Bihar's population.
"We are giving time to the state government till June to send the report to the Centre for inclusion of our community in the list of Scheduled Caste or be ready to face our wrath," Sahni said. "Our community is in no mood to compromise on reservation and I will hold a big rally at Gandhi Maidan in October where I will announce the name of my new outfit."
Sahni, originally from Supaul Bazar in Darbhanga district, is a school dropout who runs a production house, RM Film Production. He is settled in Mumbai's Goregaon locality for the past 18 years and sources close to him say he is worth Rs 1,500 crore.
He was accompanied to SK Memorial Hall on Sunday by national vice-president of Nishad Vikash Sangh, Rajbhushan Choudhary, state president Ashok Kumar Chouhan and state youth president Gautam Bind among others.
Sahni also announced that on March 10, a dharna would be organised in support of their demands at every district headquarter in Bihar, and announced to contest Lok Sabha election on all 40 seats from Bihar in 2019.
