Kahalgaon, Aug. 31: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited, Kahalgaon, has included the conservation of Gangetic dolphins under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy.

Subhashis Ghosh, the unit general manager, today told the media that the Kahalgaon chapter of NTPC Limited has geared up conservation measures for Gangetic dolphins on the 66-km stretch between Sultanganj and Bateshwarsthan in Kahalgaon, which the Centre earlier declared Vikramshila Gangetic dolphin sanctuary.

Elaborating, Ghosh said: “We would hire dolphin experts who would prepare the scientific guidelines for the conservation norms and measures after conducting an intensive survey.”

He, however, did not mention the cost of the project but said the formalities of assigning for the consultancy would be completed within this fiscal.

He said the Kahalgaon unit had earlier decided to provide financial assistance to the half-excavated site of ancient world university, Vikramshila Mahavihar, 15km northeast of the project site. “For that, we had urged the Geographical Society of India to send us a proposal so that we could contribute. But we are yet to receive it,” Ghosh said.
