Patna: Taking a leaf from the initiative of Super 30 founder Anand Kumar, an NRI from Patna Obaidur Rahman plans to replicate the model by eliminating economic constraints of poor meritorious students.

The initiative aims at helping meritorious students from minority sections but it also gives chance to students from other communities.

Rahman is settled in Saudi Arabia and heads the desert country's chapter of Bihar Foundation. "We will offer free food and lodging to students who prepare for the IIT under the tutelage of our teachers. Selection will be done through an entrance test that will be held at centres across Bihar for convenience of students."

While entrance test forms are available in different schools of Patna, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Darbhanga and Kishanganj among other places, it is also available on the website www.rahmans30.org. The test will be held on December 17.

Rahman, an engineer, was inspired by the Super 30 success. "I contacted Anand to discuss the idea and he was more than willing to help me in this initiative," Rahman said. Anand has promised to train Rahman's faculty members who would coach the students for the IIT entrance. Moreover, he will guide the NRI on how to run the classes properly.

Rahman revealed that Rahman Foundation through which this philanthropic work would be carried out would also select five students to groom them for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which provides a window to Indian students to pursue higher studies in foreign universities.

In case of students getting study offer from foreign universities on the basis of the SAT score, Rahman Foundation would provide financial help to those who do not get cent per cent scholarship from foreign universities despite getting admission.

"We need more such people so that meritorious students could get proper platform for proper guidance which helps them in achieving success in life," said Anand.

Anand said he was more than willing to help all such genuine initiatives.
