Patna (PTI): The state government is mulling creation of no-horn zones in cities to check the rising level of sound pollution, transport minister Brishen Patel said on Thursday.
“A proposal to this effect has been sent to the transport department,” he said in reply to a question by BJP MLA Baidyanath Prasad in the legislative council. Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi also demanded a ban on sale of different kinds of horns, which were raising the level of sound pollution. “A provision should be made within Motor Vehicle Act to ban sale of such ear-splitting horns,” he said.
In reply to a question on installation of high security registration plates in vehicles, Patel said the target was to install plates in 34.78 lakh vehicles. “By January 2013, 2.07 lakh vehicles have been fitted with the plates,” he added. The transport minister said agencies given the task of installing the tech plates have been directed to finish the job in two years’ time.

Patna: State vigilance bureau sleuths on Thursday nabbed one Bhagwan Singh, a clerk in the office of Rohtas civil surgeon, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000. One Deepak Kumar had approached the bureau with a complaint that the clerk was asking for bribe for issuing the joining letter for his appointment made on compassionate grounds.

Chhapra: One Santosh Sah, a sharpshooter, was arrested from Nepal and a 9mm pistol, a cellphone and five live cartridges recovered on Thursday. However, another criminal Amarendra Tiwary, wanted in a dozen cases of murder and loot in Jharkhand fled.

Gopalganj: A youth stabbed a woman after she complained to his family of his alleged bid to molest her on Thursday.
Tribunal order
Gopalganj: The court of the recovery officer of debts recovery tribunal has restrained M/s Hathwa Vanaspati Limited and others from benefiting or exercising any right on the property in respect of certificate case no PT 671/1998 (dt 22.7 2009). The State Bank of India, Exhibition Road, Patna, branch, had lodged a case before the tribunal.
HC directive
Patna: A high court bench of Justice Mihir Kumar Jha on Thursday directed the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, to file its reply within four weeks on a petition seeking direction for grant of recognition to 10 auxiliary nursing midwife institutes to run courses in the state. Arun Kumar, the petitioner's counsel, said the state government told the court on Thursday that it did not have power to grant recognition to institutes for running nursing courses instead the recognition could be granted by the council.
