Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar will take part in a programme of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Patna on June 7 to mark four years of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
BJP Bihar unit president Nityanand Rai and BJP organisational general secretary Nagendra Ji met Nitish at the latter's office to finalise the event. The venue has not been finalised but sources said it would be a mega event in which all the prominent leaders of the NDA constituents - BJP, JDU, LJP and RLSP - are likely to take part. Also, all the legislators and MPs of the constituent parties of the NDA will be invited for the event.
The NDA's show of strength assumes significance as several of the opposition parties, including the Congress, have shown intentions to join hands ahead of the 2019 elections for giving a tough fight to the BJP. Also, the opposition leaders have been trying to portray a picture that the BJP was losing allies due to its attitude. The opposition parties have been giving example of TDP and BJP's alleged strained relations with the Akali Dal and Shiv Sena. In case of Bihar, former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustan Awami Morcha Secular has already parted ways with the NDA and has joined the RJD-led Grand Alliance.
Some of the RJD leaders in Bihar have also been claiming that Upendra Kushwaha-led Rashtriya Lok Samta Party would leave the NDA.
BJP leaders, on the other hand, have been claiming that they have widened the base of NDA in the country and several new alliance partners had joined hands with the party in different states.
Also, the BJP has been able to rope in Nitish Kumar's JDU back to the NDA fold after the JDU walked out of the Grand Alliance in July 2017.
On the significance of the event, a BJP leader said: "When the Congress and other parties can showcase their unity without stitching any formal alliance as was evident in Karnataka, what is wrong if the NDA showcases its strength along with the leaders of all its constituents who have a formal alliance with us."
