Chief minister Nitish Kumar will hit the road again from November 9, after almost two years, to connect with the masses.
Nitish's 10th such excursion since 2005 will be called "Nishchay Yatra".
"The Grand Alliance government is completing a year and I want to go out in the field," Nitish said. "I will embark on the Nishchay Yatra from November 9, after Chhath festival, to see the implementation of the "seven resolves", Bihar Right to Public Grievance Redressal Act and the impact of prohibition."
He was talking after launching work on one of his seven resolves - pucca lanes and drains up to every house - in Patna in the presence of deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, rural works minister Shailesh Kumar, urban development and housing minister Maheshwar Hazari, panchayati raj minister Kapil Deo Kamat and minorities welfare minister Abdul Ghafoor.
Announcing the yatra, Nitish said he did not like staying in Patna. New Delhi was even worse. "I feel energised when I meet people," he said. "I'll see everything...including impact of prohibition, and will connect... with the people. Programmes will be organised at district level." He said prohibition cannot succeed by just making a law. It needs public awareness and support.
Sources said the yatra will kick off from Bagaha in West Champaran district, from where Nitish kicked off all his previous tours. The yatra assumes significance, as it is a mass outreach programme after Nitish folded up his "janata durbar" in May.
Janata parivar
Nitish said there were efforts by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to unite six Janata parivar parties, though it did not succeed. "But that doesn't mean there should be no more efforts. We should explore possibilities," he said.
Nitish has not yet been invited to the SP's silver jubilee function on November 5.
Power schemes
Nitish on Friday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a slew of energy schemes worth Rs 654 crore across Bihar, and inaugurated a stadium and a park developed at a cost of Rs 22 crore at the Electricity Board Colony in Patna.
