Call for water problem

Patna: Aryabhat Knowledge University vice-chancellor S.N. Guha called upon the scientists, technocrats and planners to join hands in fighting the ever-increasing menace of degrading water quality.

Guha, addressing a valedictory function for the two-day long seminar on “Techniques of water quality assessment”, organised by Patna University geology department at Science College, said the problem seems simple but is rather complex. The problem can only be solved if people joined hands to find a solution, he said.

Distribution

Patna: Mahavir Mandir Trust on Thursday distributed 200 pieces of blankets and 200 pieces of sarees among slum dwellers from the minority community behind Adalatganj and Kamla Nehru Nagar. Acharya Kishore Kunal, secretary of the trust, distributed the blankets and sarees on the premises of the temple.

Award

Patna: Central Bank of India has received SKOCH award for its performance in Jeevika project in the state. The project includes formation of self-help groups for underprivileged people and helping them start businesses. R.K. Dubey, the executive director of the bank, received the award at a function in Delhi.

Expansion

Patna: With an eye to include more people under the network of its financial services, Bank of Baroda is all set to add more branches and increase their customer base in the financial year 2011-12. N. S. Srinath, the executive director, Bank of Baroda said: “We will provide financial services to the people living in villages. The services will be provided at their doorstep with the help of our partner HCL.”

Messages       

Patna: Nitish Kumar has greeted the people of Bihar on the eve of Sankranti and Lohri. Nitish said they heralded spring and symbolised the beginning. In another message, he mourned the death of Lalita Renu, wife of the well-known Hindi writer late Phaneshwar Nath Renu. The son of the late writer, Padam Parag Renu is a JD (U) MLA.
