Lawyers to go on strike

Patna: Around 80,000 advocates from across the state will go on a weeklong strike from Tuesday to protest against the setting up of evening courts. ihar State Bar Council has appealed to the advocates to abstain from court work on Tuesday if the high court does not take any initiative to hold talks or withdraw notification regarding the evening courts, which have been functioning in the districts since last year.

Fine

Patna: The state information commission imposed fines on three public information officers (PIOs) on Monday for failing to provide information to the applicants on time. The officials — provident fund officer of Madhubani collectorate, PIO of Darbhanga collectorate and block development officer of Kalyanpur block in Samastipur district — did not even bother to respond to the notices served by the commission.

Motihari: A Nepalese national, with four ATM (Automated Teller Machine) cards of a Nepalese bank, was apprehended by the ATM guard of State Bank of India on Monday. The man managed to escape after dodging the guard.

Theft

Patna: Criminals broke into the house of one Abhishek Singh, a resident of the Kajanchi Road area under Pirbhore police station, in the early hours on Monday and escaped with jewellery and cash worth Rs 4 lakh.
