Patna: Rural works minister Bhim Singh on Monday took a dig at RJD chief Lalu Prasad for challenging his department for allegedly favouring certain companies of Andhra Pradesh in the rural road sector. him said Lalu must stop issuing such comments because no contract was given to any company without proper tender.

Election

Patna: Anirudh Akhauri, the general secretary of State Bank of India Officers’ Association, Patna circle, has been unanimously elected the president of All India State Bank of India Officers’ Federation at the triennial general council held in Chennai, said Ramesh Jha, deputy manager (public relations).

Inquiry

Patna: The state Bar council has constituted a two-member fact-finding committee for conducting an inquiry into the arrest of Vijay Vikas, an advocate of Siwan district, following a complaint of the court staff. Council chairman Baleshwar Prasad Sharma appealed to the advocates not to resort to any agitation and to refrain from taking any emotional and sentimental decision.

Bank branch

Patna: Income tax commissioner Vijay Kumar on Monday inaugurated a new branch of Induslnd Bank at Boring Road near Jamuna Apartment. He said the branch would remain open for 365 days and facilities like choice of money will be available at its ATM kiosk.

Rural job

Patna: Bihar Rural Employment Guarantee Board has been set up in accordance with the provision of MGNREGA. An official release on Monday said the board would be headed by the rural development minister.

Seva schedule

Patna: State JD(U) president Basistha Narayan Singh on Monday appealed to chief minister Nitish Kumar to postpone his Bhagalpur visit as part of the Seva Yatra scheduled for May 31 and June 1 in view of the NDA’s bandh in protest against petrol price hike. Singh said the JD(U), which supports the bandh, would hold peaceful demonstrations from the block to district and state level. He added that party workers would take out torch processions on May 30 across the state.

Surrender

Patna: CPI(Maoist) “zonal commander” of Kaimuranchal Tej Bahadur Singh alias Abhay Yadav, on Monday surrendered to Rohtas police and laid down an Insas rifle, 124 cartridges and nine magazines.

Shot

Gopalganj: Anil Kumar Soni, a salesman at a liquor shop in the Thawe area under Thawe police station, was shot dead on Sunday night. The criminals shot him dead around 11pm when he was leaving the shop at Thawe Bazar. The deceased was a resident of Purani Chawk in Gopalganj. n FIR was lodged with Thawe police station against unknown persons.
