Tech boost to polls

Patna: The state election commission is mulling to implement e-voting technology as an alternative to casting votes. meeting in this regard was held at the commission headquarters in the capital on Tuesday. The commission intends to implement the technique in the upcoming bypoll of ward number 40 of Danapur Municipal Council. The commission also wants to issue e-voting I-cards, which would be equipped with a chip.

Additional role

Patna: Principal secretary (land reforms and revenue) C. Ashokvardhan will hold additional charge of mines and geology. The incumbent principal secretary, Subhkirti Majumdar, has gone on leave till June 11.

Arrests

Patna: Two persons were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the mysterious death of one Jugesh Kumar, the peon of Patna Divisional Commissioner, on May 27.

Fire

Patna: A fire broke out at the basement of Laxmi Towers at Gandhi Maidan on around 1.30pm on Tuesday. Firefighters reached the spot and doused the flames in 30 minutes. The cause of the blaze appeared to be a short circuit.

Man shot

Chhapra: One Rahul Kumar was shot dead on Monday night around 10pm at his home. Criminals shot at him through a window.

VC direction

Chhapra: Jai Prakash University vice-chancellor Ram Vinod Sinha has directed to restart the post graduate philosophy course.

Murder

Gopalganj: A retired defense personnel Baccha Singh (62) was on Tuesday beaten to death allegedly by his cousin and nephews. The incident was an alleged outcome of a property dispute.

Woman free

Gaya: A married woman Surabhi Kumari was on Tuesday freed from around nine-month’s illegal confinement at her in-laws house at Jehanabad. In-charge of Jehanabad women’s police station Priti Kumari said Surabhi’s husband Saurabh Sagar, an Indian Air Force employee posted at Ghaziabad has been arrested.

Rebel held

Gaya: Special task force jawans on Tuesday arrested Rampravesh Yadav alias Vikas Yadav, a cadre of banned Naxalite outfit Tritiya Prastuti Committee, a breakaway faction of CPI(Maoist).

Recovered

Gaya: Intermediate student Ranjeet of village Kosma in Aurangabad was recovered on Tuesday. Gaya senior superintendent of police Vinay Kumar said Ranjeet was abducted on May 22. Eleven persons were arrested.
