Bail plea turned down

Patna: The high court on Tuesday rejected a regular bail petition of State Bank of India official Ajay Kumar Sinha, posted as a field officer with Gandhi Maidan branch. CBI arrested him for taking a bribe on January 15 this year. bench of Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh directed the trial court to complete the case in six months.

Red rampage

Patna: Armed squad members of the CPI (Maoist) blew up two control rooms of a private telecom company in Jamui district on Tuesday — the second day of their 48-hour bandh to protest the killing of six cadres in a police encounter in Banka last week.

Patna: Students of Patna Law College staged a dharna in front of Patna University main office demanding deployment of security personnel on the college and the university campuses.

Shot dead

Gopalganj: One Krishna Prasad was shot dead during a tilak ceremony at Haripur village under Jadopur police station on Monday night. A source said Vidhan Prasad, husband of mukhiya Prakash Rani, shot Krishna after an altercation.

Seizure

Chhapra: The customs department on Tuesday seized Nepalese betel nuts worth Rs 2 lakh that was being smuggled to Uttar Pradesh and seized a truck. The smugglers, however, managed to escape.

Mishap

Gaya: Celebrations for the 49th founders’ day of Magadh University were called off after three students and as many employees died in a road accident on Monday evening. The mishap took place near DAV School on Gaya-Dobhi road.
