Council festivity extension

Patna: Bihar Legislative Council chairman Tarakant Jha said the closing ceremony of the council’s centenary celebrations, which was earlier scheduled to end on March 22, 2012, would now be wrapped up in the first week of April 2012 in the new council building. ok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and vice-president Hamid Ansari would be the chief guests during the ceremony.

Quota query

Patna: The high court asked the state government to file its reply on a petition alleging that Katihar Medical College and Hospital and MG Medical College and Hospital, Kishanganj, were not following the quota rules in admissions to their postgraduate courses, by Monday.

Grid repair

Patna: People of eastern Patna would get rid of the frequent and long power cuts for more than three weeks as the power transformer of Fatuha super grid sub-station has been repaired and is being run on a load of 10 to 20 per cent.

CM tribute

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar visited former Union minister Digvijay Singh’s village Giddhaur in Jamui district and paid floral tributes on his first death anniversary. Kumar also unveiled the bronze statue of the former Union minister.

Special train

Patna: East Central Railway would run a special train — Patna-Howrah (03288) — on July 26, to clear the rush in trains.

Youth role

Patna: JD(U) MLA Rajiv Ranjan said the youth in Bihar, where 60 per cent of the population is below 25 years, would have to play a proactive role in chief minister Nitish Kumar’s efforts to wipe out corruption and develop the state.
