Case against IG

Patna, Sept. 16: A complaint case has been filed on Friday against inspector-general of police of special vigilance unit (SVU) Abhaya Kumar Upadhayaya, superintendent of police R.K. Singh and police inspector V.D. Singh of SVU in the court of the special vigilance judge M.K. Kausik. he complaint has been filed by former director-general of police Narayan Mishra. Mishra is presently facing trial in a confiscation case.

Puja alert

Patna: District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh on Friday issued instructions to the police and district administrations regarding preparations for Durga Puja. Singh held a meeting at Patna Collectorate, along with senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar, on issues of electricity supply, loudspeaker, water management, cleanliness and traffic.

Reply sought

Patna: A division bench of Justice S.K. Katriar and Justice A. Amanullah of the high court on Friday asked the state government to file its reply within four weeks on a PIL alleging favouritism in appointments made on compassionate grounds between 1995 and 2010 in Darbhanga district.

Directive

Patna: A division bench of Justice S.K. Katriar and Justice A. Amanullah of the high court directed the rural works department’s principal secretary to look into the grievances and take action on the representation of petitioner Arun Kumar Rai within eight weeks. Rai had pleaded to the court to direct an independent inquiry into construction of a 23km-stretch of road from Dekuli to Kamal Pokhar in Darbhanga district as there has been financial irregularities of crores of rupees.

Award

Patna: The city-based Vishveshvaraya Memorial Trust gave away the 8th Vishveshvaraya Memorial award to Bihar State Electricity Board chairman Prabhat Kumar Rai for exemplary contribution in the field of energy.

Health dole

Patna: Health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Friday distributed the digital blood pressure apparatus in association with Unicef to all doctors and auxiliary nurses and midwives of Hajipur Sadar, Bidupur, Goraul and Mahua.

Officer in net

Patna: Vigilance investigation bureau on Friday caught Lallu Paswan, the Bodhgaya block education officer, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 through cheque from complainant Shashi Ranjan for clearing his fixed salary.

Patna: Bihar Youth Congress President Lalan Kumar and his party workers on Friday burnt the effigy of chief minister Nitish Kumar on Dak Bungalow roundabout to protest against the barbaric police lathicharge on women at Noorsarai in Nalanda district.
