Land protest

Patna: Landowners under the banner of Bihar Rajya Kisaan Sabha, would stage a daylong protest on Thursday at the construction site of IIT, Patna at Bihta, around 40km southwest of the capital. heir main demands include payment of compensation for land acquired for the project at one rate, government service to a member of the family whose land has been acquired and rehabilitation of displaced people.

Award

Patna: Chandragupt Institute of Management, Patna, director V. Mukunda Das was awarded the EQ Leadership award by Tata Institute of Social Sciences and the Forum for Emotional Intelligence Learning, India, for his contribution to leadership development.

Conference

Patna: The Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library would organise an international conference on Bengal Art in collaboration with International Centre for Study of Bengal Art, Dhaka on Thursday.

Sports

Patna: The third annual sports of St Xavier’s College of Education would be organised on March 3. Principal Tomy Nishant would be the chief guest.

Varsity shuffle notice

Patna, Feb. 20: The governor’s office on Tuesday, issued notifications for appointments of two vice-chancellors (in-charge) and six new pro-vice-chancellors.

Magadh University vice-chancellor Arun Kumar has been appointed as in-charge VC of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TNBU), while TNBU pro VC Tapan Kumar Shandilya has been made the in-charge VC of Nalanda Open University, Patna. The six pro VCs who have been appointed include Anwar Imam (Veer Kuer Singh University, Ara), Ramayan Prasad (Magadh University), Shailendra Singh (JP University, Chhapra), Virendra Singh (Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University), Dharamnath Mishra (BN Mandal University, Madhepura) and S.K. Zaibi (Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University, Patna).

NH funds jibe

Patna (PTI): The Bihar government on Wednesday accused the Centre of not reimbursing Rs 969.75 crore it spent on upkeep of national highways passing through the state. Road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav said the Centre had given in-principle approval after which the state spent Rs 969.75 crore from 2007-11.

No security cry

Patna: The Leader of the Opposition, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, on Wednesday wrote to the Bihar director-general of police requesting him to withdraw the security given to him.

Drill complaint

Patna: The state co-ordinator of Social Democratic Party of India, Mohammad Aftab Alam, on Wednesday filed a complaint in the court of chief judicial magistrate against ministers Giriraj Singh and Ashwini Kumar Choubey. According to the complaint, Choubey had allegedly said whoever is against the Surya Namaskar drill, is anti-national.

Nuke team

Patna: A two-member team of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd on Wednesday visited Rajauli in Nawada for site selection of a proposed nuclear power plant.

Intrusion plea

Patna: A high court division bench on Wednesday directed the chief secretary to take action on a petitioner’s plea for removal of encroachments at Gandhi Maidan in Gaya town.

Cop petition

Patna: A high court division bench on Wednesday referred the petition filed by 67 sub inspectors challenging the state government’s notice for removing them from service, to a single bench.

Girl’s body found

Gopalganj: Villagers of Revatith Diwani Tola in the district found a half-eaten body at a sugarcane field on Wednesday and identified it to be of Class III student Choti Kumari who had gone missing on February 9. he seven-year-old girl had gone to the field with her grandfather. The family lodged a missing complaint at Sidhwalia police station on February 10. After some children playing near the field, alerted by a stink, called the villagers to the spot on Wednesday, Choti’s family members identified the body by the clothes found near it. Alleging that the girl was raped and killed, the residents became agitated and called for action. Sub-divisional police officer Nirmal Kumari and circle officer Vakil Singh rushed to the village.

Varsity polls

Gaya: The central union polls of Magadh University will be held on February 23. The university representatives, who were elected in the polls on February 14, will cast their vote to elect candidates for the central union posts.

Union row

Gaya: The redress cell of Magadh University election managing committee has sent matriculation certificate of Bhawani Singh, accused of providing fake birth certificate to contest in the varsity polls, to Bihar School Examination Board for verification. He was elected president in the election.

Power meet

Kahalgaon: The two-day National Thermal Power Corporation regional-level meet, which was organised to create awareness about e-tendering, concluded on Tuesday evening. The programme was attended by delegates from various projects.

Financial aid

Bhagalpur: Members of the Eastern Bihar Industries Association have urged Union finance minister to provide financial support and concessions to the small-scale industrial sector and also demanded a rollback of Alternate Minimum Tax, proposed in the last budget to impose 18.5% tax on business organisations.

Inauguration

Patna: Agriculture minister Narendra Singh on Wednesday inaugurated the Hari Chadar Yojana at Bihar Veterinary College grounds.
