Acid attack

Patna, Feb. 21: Three persons suffered burn injuries after a group of people forced them to drink acid at Mohanpur under the jurisdiction of Town police station in Sitamarhi on Thursday.he victims, identified as Ram Sevak Rai, Ramesh Kumar and Shankar Kumar, have been admitted to Sadar hospital in Sitamarhi. Police said the incident was fallout of a land dispute. Four people have been named accused in the case based on the statements of the victims.

Lover torched

New Delhi (PTI): A young woman from Bihar was set afire in east Delhi allegedly by her live-in partner, police said on Thursday. The incident occurred in Laxmi Nagar on Wednesday night and the victim is battling for life in a city hospital.

Foodgrain slur

Patna (PTI): Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday accused the Centre of discriminating against Bihar with Food Corporation of India going back on its promise of procuring foodgrain speedily despite repeated requests.

Dole hike

Patna (PTI): The state government would consider raising the Rs 20,000 given to Mahadalits for purchase of three decimals of land and conduct a fresh survey to include beneficiaries left out. “We will try to increase the Rs 20,000 given to Mahadalits for purchase of land in view of rise in cost of land,” minister for revenue and land reforms Ramai Ram told the Assembly.

Rights panel order

Patna: The state human rights commission has directed Saharsa district magistrate (DM) Miswab Bari to appear before the panel on March 20 for his failure to submit a report on the action taken against the headmaster of a middle school charged with misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 27 lakh. anel member Neel Mani said the DM was asked to submit a report within a month after the complaint was lodged in July 2012.

Aadhaar

Patna: Governor Devanand Konwar on Thursday appealed to the people of the state to get their biometric registration done under National Population Register for getting their Aadhaar cards.

Patna: The Patna High Court bench of Justice Mihir Kumar Jha on Thursday directed Bihar Public Service Commission to file its reply within a week on a petition challenging the government’s decision to make appointment of 100 posts of Bihar Accounts Service through the commission’s 53rd to 55th (mains) examination without proper advertisements.

Patna: The Patna High Court division bench of Justice T. Meena Kumari and Justice Vikash Jain on Thursday directed the secretary of the agriculture department to get a matter of alleged misappropriation of around Rs 40 lakh in the distribution of agriculture subsidies in Aurangabad district expeditiously probed.
