Tyagi elected to RS

Patna, Feb. 7 (PTI): Senior JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Bihar today. yagi came out flashing the victory sign (in picture by Nagendra Kumar Singh) after collecting the winning certificate from Assembly secretary-cum-returning officer Phul Jha. Tyagi, considered a close aide of JD(U) president Sharad Yadav, was declared elected at the end of the deadline for withdrawal of nomination, as he was the sole candidate in the fray. He will be a member of the Rajya Sabha till July 7, 2016.

Petition

Patna: Dinesh Chandra Yadav, whose election to the Lok Sabha from Khagaria was set aside on Wednesday, filed a petition in the high court on Thursday seeking stay of its order.

Rally date

Patna: RJD has again postponed the date of its rally to be held in Patna. The party first announced April 7 as the rally date, later postponing to April 28. A party office-bearer Randhir Yadav on Thursday attributed non-availability of Gandhi Maidan between April 15 and 30 to the decision.

Condolences

Patna: Congress Working Committee member and spokesman Shakeel Ahmad on Thursday visited former minister Ramashray Prasad Singh’s residence at Kankerbagh and consoled the bereaved family members.

Graft case

Patna: Special vigilance judge Ramesh Chandra Singh on Thursday sentenced Vinod Kumar Verma, the former in-charge medical officer of Kako Hospital in Jehanabad district, to two years’ rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case. Verma was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 3,500 as bribe from Dr Shailendra Kumar on March16, 2006.

Bill centres open

Patna: Bill collection counters would remain open on every Sunday across the state, including Patna Electric Supply Undertaking area, said Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd deputy general manager (PR) H.R. Pandey on Thursday said. he bill collection counters would be closed on Tuesdays from now.

Workshop

Patna: Patna University organised a daylong workshop at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies on Thursday for a soon-to-be-launched course on disaster management at Patna College. The two courses — postgraduate diploma on disaster management and masters degree on disaster management — will start from next academic session.

MD post

Patna: A high court bench on Thursday directed the state government and C.K. Anil, the managing director of Bihar State Co-operative Marketing Union Limited (Biscomaun), to file replies on a petition filed by board of directors of Biscomaun. The petition filed through advocate Ishwari Singh sought the direction from the court to remove Anil from his post and issue direction to the state to appoint another person as Biscomaun MD.

Annual fest

Patna: Jeevatva-2013, the four-day annual fest of Chanakya National Law University, will start on Friday. Cultural, literary, sports, social and other events would be organised at the fest.

Youth leader

Patna: Sanjeev, who was elected as Bihar Youth Congress president, has been removed from the post in the wake of allegations that had cropped up against him on the election day on January 23.

Strike on

Patna: Engineers will continue with their strike under the Bihar Engineering Services Association banner, stated a release from the association on Thursday. The government engineers went on strike from Wednesday.

Online exam

Patna: Director-general of police Abhayanand on Thursday said private educational institutions should work towards corporate social responsibility. He was speaking at the prospectus launch of Icfai University’s BTech programme for 2013-2017. .P. Srivastava, vice-chancellor, Icfai University Jaipur, said the online examination for the BTech programme will start from May 5.

Bank strike

Patna: United Forum of Bank Unions, Bihar, will launch a two-day strike across all banks from February 20. ATM services will be hit during the strike.

Car fair

Patna: UCO Bank will organise a mega car loan fair at its Kankerbagh branch on Friday, allowing potential customers enjoy facilities at a single place.

Veggies sale

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar said organic vegetables and mushrooms grown in Nalanda would be sold from Sudha outlets, during his visit to Sohidih village in the district on Thursday.

R-Day cadets

Patna: The Republic Day NCC contingent of Bihar met Governor Devanand Konwar at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and were felicitated by the governor.
