Arms dealers in net

Patna: Three arms dealers were arrested after a brief encounter with the personnel of the Special Task Force from Govindpur Rajaura village in Begusarai district late on Tuesday night. olice said a rifle, a country-made rifle, five cartridges and three empty cartridges were seized from the possession of the arms suppliers, who were identified as Uddeshya Sahni, Avinash alias Raj Kumar and Om Prakash.

Arrest

Motihari: Sanjay Kumar Singh, a contractor, was arrested for killing a woman and injuring two others. On Tuesday, Sanjay allegedly fired at the people indiscriminately, resulting in the death of Shail Kumari (30). Shail’s body was recovered on Wednesday. Police are yet to ascertain the reason for the firing. The two persons who were injured and referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital were identified as Lalita Devi and Shyam Nandan Kumar.

Entry forms

Patna: December 1 is the last date to submit application forms for admission to various academic programmes for Indira Gandhi National Open University’s January 2015 cycle. An Ignou press note on Wednesday said the prospectus for admission can be obtained from study centres or regional centres of the university by paying Rs 200. Those willing to obtain admission forms through post would have to submit a demand draft of Rs 250.

Spinal health

Patna: Experts advised people on how to tackle pain in the spinal cord, on Wednesday. Speaking at a programme organised by the orthopaedics department of Patna Medical College and Hospital to mark the death anniversary of Dr B. Mukhopadhyay, the experts cautioned people on not to take the pain lightly. They opined that spinal cord tuberculosis could one of the reasons for the pain and asked people to consult doctors.

Tributes

Patna: Tributes were paid to late poet Mohan Lal Mahto Viyogi on Wednesday, his death anniversary. A programme was organised at Sir Ganesh Dutt Vichar Manch in which participants recalled Viyogi’s contributions to the field of literature.

Ghat order for festival

Patna: The district administration has made proper arrangements for devotees visiting Ganga ghats on the occasion of Kartik Purnima on Wednesday. n a statement issued, district magistrate (DM) Abhay Kumar Singh said barricading has been done at Digha Ghat, Collectorate Ghat, Mahendru Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Gai Ghat, Bhadra Ghat, Mahavir Ghat and Kali Ghat. The pontoon bridge constructed during Chhath has not been removed and devotees can use it. The DM said that 57 magistrates have been deputed at 27 ghats in Patna sadar.

Agro loan

Patna: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has earmarked Rs 1,000 crore to provide direct finance to cold chain infrastructure projects in the country. A Nabard press note on Wednesday said cold chain players in the public, private and cooperative sectors besides former producer organisations can now avail the benefit of this move.

Bank service

Patna: The eastern region general manager of Union Bank of India, Sunil Kumar Gupta, is on a three-day visit to the state to take part in several programmes. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sunil told bank personnel to provide better services.

Dengue advice

Patna: The health director of Public Awareness for Healthful Approach for Living (Pahal), Dr Diwakar Tejaswi, on Wednesday said awareness was a must to prevent the spread of dengue. He was speaking at a programme in which trainees of National Institute Of Rural Development took part.

Blast petitions

Patna: Special National Investigation Agency judge Anil Kumar Singh on Wednesday rejected the discharge petitions of seven accused persons, including Haider Ali, in connection with the Gandhi Maidan serial blast case. A discharge petition seeks that the accused should be freed from charges levelled against them. The next date of hearing has been fixed on November 17.

State stands at 20

Patna, Nov. 5 (PTI): Slamming the JDU for pushing Bihar into “political instability” by severing alliance with the BJP former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said the ruling party’s unilateral decision has cost the state dearly as it has slumped 10 notches on development indices within 18 months. uoting extensively from a media report compiled by two leading economists to rank top 20 states on different indices of development, Modi said Bihar has been ranked at 20th position on the basis of its performance on various indices in 2013-14 as against corresponding ranking of 11th during the alliance.       

Clash tension

Patna: Tension gripped Daudnagar in Aurangabad district following a fresh clash between two groups on Wednesday. Police had to resort to baton charge to disperse the mob. Four FIRs have been lodged in connection with Monday’s vandalism. Police said the identity of the troublemakers would be ascertained with the help of video footage.

Felicitation

Patna: Education minister Brishen Patel on Wednesday said the JDU, RJD and Congress leadership have decided to felicitate Sharad Yadav for receiving the best parliamentarian award of 2012.
