15 kids rescued

Patna: Fifteen children in the age group of six to 14 years were rescued from Amritsar and brought back to Bhagalpur on Friday. n receiving information about the children from Child Protection Centre in Amritsar, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi issued a directive to bring them back.

Patna: General manager of Bank of India (eastern region) Prem Kumar on Friday inaugurated its sales counter in Muzaffarpur.

DA hike

Patna: Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd on Friday announced that the officers, employees and pensioners would get an eight per cent hike in dearness allowance with effect from January 1, 2013.

Promotion

Patna: The Patna University selection committee on Friday cleared the names of 55 teachers for promotion from Hindi, English, chemistry and other departments.

Verbal attack

Patna, May 31: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday attacked the Manmohan Singh-led government for the country’s slow economic growth. He also attacked some central ministers for stating that the BJP had links with Maoists operating in Chhattisgarh.

Prison

Patna: Special CBI judge Bashishtha Narayan Singh on Friday sentenced former primary school teacher of Bahiya in Banka, Arjun Kumar Shivedu, former primary school teacher of Banka district, Manoj Sah, and Gopal Das to three years’ rigorous imprisonment. CBI had registered an FIR against the trio on November 3, 2005. According to FIR on the basis of forged transfer order, accused Sah and Das had joined the school despite not being teachers. Arjun allegedly colluded with Sah and Das.

Life term

Munger (PTI): A court on Friday sentenced seven persons to life imprisonment for murdering 35-year-old Dinesh Mandal in 2007.

Condolence

Patna: The department of women studies, Patna University, on Friday organised a prayer meet to pay respect to Veena Majumdar, architect of women studies in India and founder director of Centre for Women’s Development Studies.
