Graft heat on officer

Patna: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday nabbed Madan Prasad Singh, the block education officer of Patepur in Vaishali district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Jainendra Kumar. umar had approached the bureau complaining that Singh was demanding the bribe to finalise his service book and verify pension documents.

Murder case

Patna: Kaimur police have registered a fresh case against Shailendra Chero and his father Deenanath Chero on charges of killing Chayo Chero, Shailendra’s wife, after the human rights commission intervened in the matter. The police had earlier claimed that she had succumbed to illness.

SSB relief to flood victims

Patna: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) director general, Arun Choudhary, handed over a demand draft of Rs 1,89,60,137 to the chief minister of Uttarakhand at Dehradun on Wednesday. n a statement issued by assistant publicity officer of Frontier headquarters of the SSB (Patna) N.C. Sharma said the money was collected from the salary of the SSB personnel to help the flood victims of Uttarakhand. Senior officials, including Shyam Singh, IG, Ranikhet of the frontier headquarters and S. Bandhopadhyay, director of the SSB were also present on the occasion.

Students’ protest

Patna: Members of National Students’ Union of India took out a march on Wednesday to register their protest against the Saran incident that led to the deaths of school children after they consumed midday meal. The members also burnt an effigy of chief minister Nitish Kumar at Dakbungalow roundabout.

Blood camp

Patna: Over 150 units of blood were collected at a free blood donation camp organised by the SBI Officers’ Association in collaboration with the Lions Club of Patna Shubham at the bank’s zonal office in Patna on Wednesday. The collected blood units were handed over to the Lions Mahavir Cancer Sansthan Blood Bank. Director of Mahavir Cancer Sansthan Dr Jitendra Kumar Singh inaugurated the camp.
