Patna: The government has decided to take action against unregistered brick kilns in the state keeping in mind environment concerns. rincipal secretary of the mines and geology department B. Pradhan said this at a news meet in Patna on Thursday. He said the decision has been taken to address environment concerns and the need to conserve riverwater.

Modi on 370 debate

Patna: Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Thursday underlined the need of having an extensive debate on the relevance of Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir in certain respects. odi said the makers of the Constitution had envisaged a temporary requirement of the Article or else they would not have put in provisions that empowered the President to amend or revoke the Article through a public notification.

Temple visit

Patna: Members of Sri Ugratara Mata Mandir Nyas Samiti have urged chief minister Nitish Kumar to visit the temple during his proposed visit to Saharsa on December 14 for inaugurating a bridge.

Bank camp

Patna: The Rajendra Nagar branch of Bank of India organised an account opening camp in the Saidpur locality. At least 350 people visited the camp and 119 saving accounts were opened.

Maoist duo in cop net

Chhapra: Two Naxalites were arrested from two villages under Panapur police station on Wednesday night. arauhra deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Kundan Kumar on Thursday said Jaiprakash Kushwaha from Mohammadpur village and Dharmendra Kumar Singh from Morwa village were arrested on the basis of a tip-off. No arms were, however, recovered. He said both the Maoists were wanted in dozens of cases lodged at different police stations.

LJP jab

Patna: LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Thursday attacked chief minister Nitish Kumar and accused him of having failed to curb the Naxalite menace in the state. Paswan alleged that the state government has failed to take any punitive steps against rebels. He also announced that on December 9, the LJP would hold a meeting at SK Memorial hall in which students from all the universities of Bihar would take part.

Overload jibe

Patna: Congress general secretary Vinod Sharma on Thursday said action being taken by district administration against transporters in the name of overloading was adversely hitting the parents, particularly those with limited resources, as the transporters have hiked the monthly charge for students using their services.

Protest

Patna: Members of All India Students’ Association (Aisa) burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday to register their protest against the move of Union Public Service Commission to remove Persian from the list of optional subjects of Civil Services Examination. The AISA members claimed the new pattern of the exam was not good for students coming from the Hindi belt of the country.
