Patna: The anti-Naxalite operations in the Maoist-hit districts is likely to be stepped up in the future with the Union home ministry’s decision to deploy 200 additional personnel of the CRPF’s CoBRA battalion. ources in the state police headquarters said the personnel of the CoBRA battalion, a special force carved out to carry out anti-Naxalite operations, would be deployed in Jamui and its adjoining areas, which have witnessed a spurt in Maoist activities in the recent past.

Focus on shaping life

Patna: The importance of hard labour in shaping one’s life figured prominently during a debate organised by Students’ Oxygen Movement, an organisation that works for student-related issues, on Sunday. The topic of the debate was one cannot achieve success with a feeling of disappointment. The students from different schools took part in the discussion, sources said.

Patna: The Sunday meetings of Deshprem Abhiyaan helped participants overcome negative feelings, Abhiyaan sources said. The aim of the meetings was to inculcate positive thinking among the participants, they said.

Vote turnout

Patna: Around 52 per cent voters’ turnout was recorded in the by-elections on Sunday for the 1,496 posts of panchayati raj institutions. State election commission sources said no incident of violence was reported during the poll and counting of votes would start on Monday. /B>

Minor rape

Patna: A Class VII student of a government school at Agnigaon village under the jurisdiction of Darigaon police station in Rohtas district was allegedly raped by a local resident, Ramji Paswan alias Tamatar, on Saturday. Rohtas superintendent of police Vikas Barman said the accused was arrested within six hours of lodging of the complaint with the police station concerned. The girl was sent to the local sadar hospital for medical examination, which confirmed the rape.

Meet with Nitish

Patna: The father of a minor girl who was gang-raped and later died in Bengal recently is likely to call on chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday. Sources close to the victim’s family, which belongs to Samastipur district, said the girl’s father had earlier sought appointment from Nitish.
