Patna, March 31 (PTI): The Election Commission has identified 6,090 hamlets across Bihar as “vulnerable” where strong-arm tactics could prevent weaker sections from voting.The 6,090 vulnerable hamlets have been identified by our sector officers posted at panchayat-level. We prepare the list of such hamlets on the basis of their feedback,” additional chief electoral officer R. Lakshmanan said. he EC would make special arrangements to ensure smooth voting in the vulnerable areas, he said. Disruptive elements in these hamlets were being identified and asked to fill-up bonds, he said. “Altogether 57,531 persons have filled bonds under preventive sections of the Criminal Procedure Code so far. We have identified 23,500 persons as probable source of trouble. As many as 29,701 non-bailable warrants have been executed with the help of police across the state,” said Lakshmanan. Lucknow (PTI): The Samajwadi Party on Monday declared Raghunath Gupta as its candidate from the East Champaran (Motihari) constituency. Gupta’s name has been finalised by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, party spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury said. Gupta is a veteran SP leader and was in jail for 19 months during Emergency, he added. Patna: The Bihar Pradesh Congress vice-president, Prem Chandra Mishra, said the party was seriously considering to contest in at least two-three Assembly seats out of the five going to the bypolls shortly. Sources said the Congress might contest in the Baisi and Chiraiya Assembly constituencies as the party polled more than 30,000 and 20,000 votes, respectively, in the 2010 Assembly polls. Bypolls would also be conducted at Sahebpul Kamal, Kochadhaman and Maharajganj. Arwal (PTI): Naresh Ram, a hardcore Maoist and the prime accused in the Pariyari incident of August 2002 in which three persons were killed, was arrested on Monday from Arwal, police said. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided Nirakhpur village and caught the rebel, superintendent of police Shafique Haque said. The Maoist was on the run since the Pariyari incident.
