Patna, Aug. 16: A team of 29 policemen has started patrolling the city streets on white motorbikes trying to ease the traffic movement.

The team, which was flagged off on August 14 by Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) B.S. Meena, will try to remove traffic snarls and provide relief to the daily commuters. The Telegraph had reported about the plan on July 30.

Traffic superintendent of police Ajit Kumar Sinha said, “We have divided the city into 29 sub-sectors. Each of these sectors will have a policeman with a wireless, a motorbike with flashers and four constables at his disposal. The team will continuously move around their respective sectors looking after the traffic .”

The SP said, if the team feels that the traffic congestion is really bad and more force needs to come in, they will inform the control room through wireless.

Sinha said: “We will immediately send extra people and equipment to the spot. I will also maintain an hourly checklist which will have reports on these sub-sectors. We will carefully take note of the time of the traffic snarl and the time to clear it.”

He said: “We will have an exact idea of the traffic situation in all the areas of Patna.” He added that the public could directly call him if they spot a traffic jam in any particular area. Sinha said: “We are requesting the public for information as well. If anyone is stuck in a traffic congestion he can call me (9431822970). Immediate remedial action will be initiated.”

Sources said that apart from this, the new team will be helpful in checking rash driers who tend to flee after breaking traffic rules.
