Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav scrapped for the second consecutive day in the Assembly on Wednesday, this time over another scam.
The trigger was a question from RJD MLA Lalit Kumar Yadav on fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 6 crore earmarked for the chief minister's seven resolves in Nawada district in October this year. Panchayati raj minister Kapildev Kamat conceded irregularities of over Rs 5.34 crore.
"Every time a scam surfaces the government says they will take action," Tejashwi said. "Tell us how many DMs, big officers and ministers have been arrested. The chief minister has to come and clarify. There appears to be a deliberate attempt to cover up the scams."
Sushil retorted that no one will be spared: "Whether it is the fodder scam or bitumen scam (that happened when Tejashwi's father Lalu Prasad was chief minister) or Srijan scam, this government will not spare anyone. Even if the accused is underground we will search him out."
Minister Kamat said mukhiyas and panchayat secretaries who had withdrawn the funds have been asked to redeposit the money. "Already more than Rs 2.11 crore has been re-deposited," Kamat said. "We have asked the Nawada district magistrate to lodge cases against mukhiyas and panchayat secretaries who have not deposited the funds back. I have written a letter to all DMs to probe if similar withdrawals have been made in their districts."
Lalit demanded the minister give details about other districts because the Srijan scam started from one district and similar withdrawals in other districts came to light later.
The minister said he was still awaiting reports from other districts.
The RJD MLA entered the Well of the House, Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary persuaded him to go back.
"The government has conceded your charge," Chaudhary said. "Now let the government take action."
