The Bihar State Milk Cooperative Federation (Comfed), which is into business of dairy products with the brand name of Sudha, has proposed to set up its kiosk at the temporary hostel of Nalanda University.
Two officials of Comfed — one from Biharsharif and another from Patna — on Monday visited the varsity’s makeshift campus on a health and research centre near Rajgir bus stand, around 2.5km from Nalanda University’s temporary hostel at Hotel Tathagat Vihar. Meeting the varsity’s administrative head Sridhar V.K., they offered to set up a booth to sell their dairy products.
The Telegraph had published a report on the unavailability of Sudha curd in Rajgir in its September 1, 2014, edition. The proposal from Comfed to set up the Sudha parlour at Nalanda University came the same day.
Comfed managing director Harjot Kaur told The Telegraph: “I had asked two officials to go to Rajgir and talk to the Nalanda University officials for setting up a Sudha kiosk. I have also asked them to ensure curd reaches Rajgir.”
Confirming the development, Sridhar said: “The officials of Comfed sought 15ftx15ft space for setting up the kiosk. I told them I shall revert to them after speaking to the vice-chancellor, Gopa Sabharwal.”
The proposed kiosk at the Nalanda University hostel would be open from 6am to 8pm. Besides milk, all Sudha dairy products, including curd, flavoured milk and ice cream would be available at the booth.
The Sudha officials said the booth would be exclusively for the varsity students, teachers and officials. “Outsiders would not be allowed to buy milk products from the kiosk at the hostel,” said a source in the Comfed.
Health conscious Nalanda University teachers and students had expressed their displeasure over missing curd on menu because the milk product of Comfed. Barring milk, none of its products reaches the tourism town.
Considered a digestive nutrient, one has to travel 25km to Biharsharif to buy Sudha curd. The town has a dozen Sudha parlours, but they sell only milk supplied from six-month-old Nalanda Dairy at Biharsharif.
The new facility has still not started preparing milk products like curd and paneer (cottage cheese), triggering the short supply in Rajgir.
