The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) team asked the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University students to not turn unruly to press their demands.
The seven-member NAAC team arrived on August 17 on a three-day trip to evaluate the different postgraduate departments, administrative sections, examination departments and offices of the university.
The team held detailed talks with students on Wednesday afternoon and asked them to pursue their demands in a disciplined and peaceful manner. "It is learnt that students go unruly and violent at the drop of a hat while protesting and putting forward their demands. This is not just objectionable, but a highly shameful act," said a member.
Proctor Satish Kumar, who is also the spokesperson of the university, told The Telegraph that the Naac team has asked the university to lessen the burden on the examination department so that they can declare the results on time. He said: "The traditional and vocational courses of the postgraduate departments and colleges under the university should be bifurcated. One more wing should be created in the examination department to look into the affairs of the vocational courses. Results must be announced within 45 days after an examination is conducted in a bid to set right the delayed system of the academic session".
While inspecting the postgraduate departments, the team requested the faculty members to concentrate on imparting quality education to students. Ganesh Hegde, a member of the Naac team, said: "It won't be long before the university will be asked to adopt the corporate culture." Another member said: "The university should explore possibilities to strengthen its internal resources by involving the alumni and organise meets so that they could share their experiences with the students."
The Naac team will send the assessment report of the university to its Bangalore headquarters by August 30.
