Two students from the state capital have got the opportunity to step into the world of Indian classical music.

Spic Macay has selected music honours student of Magadh Mahila College Shruti Raj Verma and Class XII student of DAV Khagaul Ujjwal Avinash for its Gurukul Anubhav Scholarship Scheme, 2012.

Fifty persons between 14 and 26 years of age had applied for the scholarship provided by Spic Macay’s society to promote Indian classical music and culture among the youths.

The two teenagers will now get to learn the nuances of Hindustani classical music from some of the most famous names in the field. Shruti and Ujjwal will join many others from across the country at ITC- Sangeet Research Academy in Calcutta where they would undergo a month’s training. They would undergo training from June 1 to 30 and July 1 to 31, respectively.

Music maestros such as Girija Devi, Abdul Rashid Khan, Ajay Chakraborty and Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar would be their mentors.

“The scheme aims to revive guru-shishya parampara (teacher-student school) where the selected students get to learn music/dance from eminent personalities in their respective art form,” Manish Singh Thakur, Spic Macay’s national executive member said.
