Bettiah: Raxaul police on Friday arrested a couple wanted in the Raj Kumar Kushwaha murder case, which occurred in January this year over a sleaze incident.

Murder co-accused Raju Shah and his wife, Deepmala, were arrested from Raxaul on the basis of a tip-off. "They confessed to have killed Gamagarhwa resident (in East Champaran), Raj Kumar on January 6," said Raxaul sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Rakesh Kumar.

Police recovered the body from Sariswa river at Gandhinagar village on January 7. During interrogation, police came to know that woman had an illicit relationship with Raj Kumar and the latter was exploiting the family threatening to circulate objectionable photographs of the woman.

"To delete the photographs from Raj Kumar's mobile, the woman called him to her Raxaul residence to spend a night in her husband's absence. Deepmala and her unsuspecting husband killed him," said the SDPO when contacted.

In the meantime, Raj Kumar's family members had lodged a case with Gamagarhwa police station after he went missing.
