Magadh University vice-chancellor (VC) Mohammed Ishtiaq on Wednesday tried to convince officials and non-teaching employees to call truce and normalise functioning of the varsity in the wake of infighting that led to 11 officials tendering their resignation on Tuesday.
The MU administration has not yet accepted their resignations.
The VC, after holding a meeting with the 11 officials, met representatives of the non-teaching association.
However, the stalemate over the officials’ resignation is yet to subside as both the groups are adamant over their demands.
Amarnath Pathak, the secretary of Magadh University Non-teaching Employees’ Association, said: “During the meeting with the VC, we briefed him about the incident and urged him to accept their resignations.”
Pathak said the VC assured them of finding a solution as soon as possible.
The non-teaching employee association demands include solving the promotion issue of non-teaching employees which has been pending for years, renovation and construction of drains and houses of non-teaching employee association members.
Sitaram Singh told The Telegraph: “Some non-teaching employees are trying to disturb the atmosphere on the campus for their personnel gains. The non-teaching employee association members have the backing of some students leaders wanted to create tension on the premises.”
Sources said the VC, after holding a meeting of two groups separately, would hold a joint meeting of the two groups.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed on Wednesday after some students leaders forcefully closed down the campus in support of their various demands, including re-evaluation of undergraduate results declared recently.
Sources said the student agitation has been backed by non-teaching employee associations.
The senior officials of Magadh University who resigned include registrar Sitaram Singh, proctor Nand Kishore Yadav, examination controller Israel Khan, college development council coordinator Upendra Nath Verma and college inspector (science) Shailendra Kumar.
The resignations followed a high-voltage confrontation, and when vice-chancellor Mohammed Ishtiaq was not in his office.
Sources said on Tuesday morning some non-teaching employees led by their association secretary Amarnath Pathak reached the campus in support of their demands.
As the vice-chancellor was not in his chamber, the association members reached the registrar’s office to create ruckus on Tuesday.
