Patna, Feb. 24: The Bihar government will take action against the culprits who allegedly misbehaved with eminent folk singer Devi at Bodh Gaya, chief minister Nitish Kumar told the state legislative council today.
Going a step further, Bihar human resource development minister P.K. Sahi has recommended Governor Devanand Konwar to ask the vice-chancellor of Jai Prakash Narayan University, Dinesh Prasad Sinha, to step down with immediate effect for allegedly misbehaving with the singer.
Sahi said this in the legislative Assembly after BJP MLA from Taraiya Janak Singh demanded a high-level inquiry into the alleged molestation of the singer.
Replying to a question during the Zero Hour, Nitish said he had directed the director-general of police to probe the matter and appropriate action would follow against Sinha if he was found guilty.
The chief minister, however, remained silent when a member demanded a time frame for completion of the probe against the VC.
Devi had earlier alleged the vice-chancellor had misbehaved with her during a cultural programme at Bodh Gaya on February 18.
She had also lodged a complaint against him with the Gaya police station. The vice-chancellor, however, had denied the charge, saying he was not present during the cultural programme.
