Motihari, Jan. 20: The district will get an all-women police station next week. It would handle all cases related to atrocities on women.

East Champaran superintendent of police (SP) Ganesh Kumar has sent a letter to the regional inspector-general of Muzaffarpur, Gupteshwar Pandey, seeking female officers for the all-women police station.

The SP told The Telegraph that the old building of the Mufassil police station would be used as the first ever women’s police station in Motihari. “The police station is likely to start functioning within three to four days and the officers would be posted at the police station before that,” Ganesh said.

Sources said the state government had issued a directive to the state police headquarters to set up women’s police stations last year.

Following this, the state police headquarters issued letters to all the SPs across the state, asking them to take necessary action in this regard.

The first all-women police station in the state would be inaugurated tomorrow at Bihar Sharif.
