Patna, June 28: Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the main guarding force along the India-Nepal border, will deploy over 2,200 more personnel in West Champaran district in north Bihar to check cross-border activities.
SSB inspector-general of police (frontier headquarters) Aditya Mishra said two additional SSB battalions will be deployed at Harinagar and Narkatiyaganj in West Champaran district by the end of this year. One battalion comprises about 1,100-1,200 personnel.
Mishra, after his return from New Delhi where had gone to attend a meeting convened by the director-general of police (DG) told The Telegraph on Tuesday that eight new battalions had been raised during financial year 2011-12 out of which two battalions would be deputed in Bihar’s bordering district.
In addition, the state that witnessed a spurt in circulation of fake currency, would get an additional battalion in 2012, which would be deputed on the border outposts under Sitamarhi district. One additional battalion is proposed for Motihari in East Champaran, he added.
“The newly recruited personnel are presently undergoing training and they will be deputed on the border outposts by November-December,” he said, adding that a combined recruitment process has been introduced in the central paramilitary force.
The IG said there was about 10,000 vacancies in general duty category, while 1,100-1,200 posts were lying vacant for sub-inspectors under Patna Frontier headquarters. The staff selection commission will be responsible for the recruitment. About 50 per cent vacancies is to be filled up with promotions, he clarified.
He said two companies of women personnel had been deputed at important border outposts (BoPs) for frisking of women involved in trans-border activities. At present, 10 battalions are attached with the Patna frontier headquarters. Two battalions, which were earlier attached with the Patna Frontier headquarters, had been separated from it and attached with the SSB headquarters in Bengal.
