Molest video from Saharsa goes viral

A video showing a girl riding a bicycle being waylaid by a group of men and being molested in Saharsa, around 200km northeast of Patna, became viral on social media on Monday, prompting the police to launch a manhunt for the perpetrators. One person being seen in the clip has been arrested so far.

Patna: A video showing a girl riding a bicycle being waylaid by a group of men and being molested in Saharsa, around 200km northeast of Patna, became viral on social media on Monday, prompting the police to launch a manhunt for the perpetrators. One person being seen in the clip has been arrested so far.

The incident is of Town police station area of Saharsa. The girl is seen riding a bicycle when a group of young men waylay and molest her. The girl pleads with them to leave her and finally breaks down.

"We got to know about this video today (Monday) and immediately launched an investigation. One of the persons involved in the incident, who was circulating the video, was traced and arrested. He has been identified as Pankaj Yadav of Town police station area," Saharsa SP Rakesh Kumar told The Telegraph.

Rakesh said the crime took place in Town police station area and raids were on to nab others involved in the crime. "We're also trying to trace the girl so that we can take her statement and bring the culprits to book. We have lodged an FIR without any complaint or complainant. Pankaj will be produced in court later," the Saharsa SP said.

The latest viral video comes on the heels of a series of such incidents since May. The state government has been facing flak over rising incidents of crime against women.
