Gaya, March 5: Uncertainty looms large over the venue for BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally, scheduled for March 14.

The BJP district unit had submitted an application to Magadh University headquarters requesting the university to make available its ground for the rally. Vice-chancellor Mohammad Ishtiyak has referred the matter to Raj Bhavan, seeking guidelines from the governor-cum-chancellor of universities of the state.

BJP Gaya district president Jainendra Kumar told The Telegraph this evening that he and other party leaders had met the Magadh University vice-chancellor in the evening of February 25 in connection with the ground.

Subsequently, a written application was submitted at the university’s Bodhgaya headquarters on February 26. In response to the application, the MU administration has sought guidelines from Raj Bhavan on March 1. Regarding delay in taking a decision over allotment of ground on the university campus, Jainendra alleged that it was deliberate on the direction of the state government.

The BJP district unit has identified three places for the rally, which include the Gandhi Maidan in the heart of the township, the ground at Bhusunda, around 4km east of Gaya town and the Magadh University campus, around 15km south of the town on Gaya-Dobhi road.

“We are preferring the university campus to avoid traffic snarls in the township. A rally in Gaya town or in Bhusunda will create traffic snarls. Just two days ahead of Holi, the rally, if held in Gandhi Maidan, a huge crowd and the large number of vehicles could create trouble for common people. Sand has been dumped on the ground in Bhusunda, where people coming to the rally will have a problem. Also vehicle parking will be difficult there. However, a final decision over the venue will be taken only after the decision of Magadh University administration,” he said.

On Tuesday, a team of BJP leaders, including Jainendra, Krishna Kumar Singh, Hari Manjhi, Gaya town MLA and former state minister Prem Kumar, MLAs Shyamdev Paswan and Virendra Singh and others met Sushil Kumar Modi and Nand Kishore Yadav in Patna to discuss the venue issue. A delegation of leaders also tried to meet the governor on Tuesday evening on the issue but could not succeed.
