Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar has accepted RJD MLA Sanjay Yadav's proposal to allow MLAs to recommend installation of CCTV cameras from their regional development funds to help police maintain law and order.

Yadav made the proposal during Zero Hour in the Assembly on Tuesday. Nitish said he accepted the proposal: "Sanjay Yadav had already met me with this proposal. I've instructed the home commissioner and planning department to issue a notification for the same."

Legislators are entitled to recommend construction of roads, small bridges, street lights , and funds for some institution under the chief minister's regional development scheme. So far they were so far not entitled to recommend installation of CCTVs .

MLAs across party lines also blamed traffic arrangements on the Patna Bypass road for accidents and jams, despite minister Shravan Kumar's claims to the contrary. He said 4,000 trucks had been fined during this financial year.

However, MLAs cutting across party line expressed their dissatisfaction and Rajak alleged that everyone commuting on the road had to face traffic jams, including ministers whenever he went to Nalanda. The Speaker asked the minister to order strict action to continuously regulate traffic in the area.

There was also a question related to non distribution of full old age pension, to which Nitish said a restriction imposed by the Centre was to blame and said the state has made provisions to pay the remaining amount on its own.

Road violence

A mob set a truck on fire and smashed windscreens of half a dozen other vehicles following the death of a youngster in a road accident near Noorsarai in Nalanda district on Tuesday evening.

The dead was identified as Chandan Kumar (20), a resident of Chhotikibigha village under the jurisdiction of Tharthari police station in Nalanda district.

Father held for rape

Munna Sharma, a resident of Agamkuan police station area, was arrested on Tuesday for raping his daughter, a Class X student. The girl lodged an FIR.

The girl said her father used to sexually harass her elder sister too.
