RJD MLA Faisal Rahman has received a life threat for the second time within a fortnight allegedly for failing to pay Rs 20 lakh as extortion.

The legislator from the Dhaka Assembly seat in East Champaran district told the police on Tuesday that an anonymous person called him up early on Tuesday (12.20am) and demanded extortion money. When Faisal sought to know the caller's name, he disconnected the line but not before hurling abuses at the MLA.

The caller allegedly threatened Faisal with dire consequences if he did not cough up the money within a week. The legislator spoke to Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj and Sikrahana sub-divisional police officer Bambam Choudhary and requested them to take the matter seriously as he apprehended threat to his life.

'I have requested senior police officers of the district to ascertain the caller's identity and take legal action against him. What is shocking is that this has happened with me for the second time within a fortnight. The local police have failed to make any breakthrough in the first case reported on September 12,' he told The Telegraph over phone.

Faisal, the son of former parliamentarian late Shafi-ur-Rahman, said he had also sought an appointment with the director-general of police P.K. Thakur and home secretary Amir Subhani to seek their intervention. 'Sikrahana sub-divisional police officer Bambam Choudhary has promised to catch the culprit.'

The phone number used in making the extortion call has been traced to Nepal. 'On September 12 this year, an anonymous person called up on the lawmaker's mobile around 9am and demanded Rs 20 lakh as extortion. The caller had threatened Faisal with dire consequences if the money was not paid. 'This time, he (caller) used abusive language against me to exert pressure. But I am not a coward,' he said.

Two days ago, JDU MLA from Harlakhi in Madhubani district Sudhanshu Shekhar also received a threat call.
